I have wondered on occasion, why the Lord would say that we were only to serve God.  We serve our husbands, children, guests, strangers--in serving others we do serve God.  "Whatsoever ye have done unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."  

While reading in the interlinear this morning in chapter four of Matthew I found that "Him only shalt thou serve"  indicates in the word service, divine service. Thus the service intended here is service to a god.  We are only to serve God as a god.
