A Common Misconception About Biblical Submission
A Common Misconception About Biblical Submission
776 days ago 4 comments Categories: Family Tags: submission, wives, husbands, marriage

Let's face it.  Women are a force to be dealt with, as most anyone in leadership well knows.  When it comes to teaching Biblical submission it has become popular to tell couples that they are to submit to one another in the fear of God.  That's Bible, right?

The scriptures caution us to study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.  In the case of Ephesians chapters five and six we must be careful to do just that-- "rightly divide" the Word of Truth. Chapter five begins by telling us to be followers of God as dear children and to walk in love....There follows a long list of instructions, the last of which given in that section is, "...submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God."

The following section expands on submission by giving examples of who is to submit to whom: wives to husbands, the Church to Christ, children to parents, servants to masters.  Lest we have misunderstood, the Word clearly states, "...so let the wives be subject to their own husbands in everything." Husbands are instructed to love their wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for it.

It takes a very manly man to love with that kind of love.   It takes a strong woman to submit.  The weak woman gives in to her flesh and steps out from under authority.  The woman who has devoloped the "meek and quiet spirit which is in the sight of God of great price" submits to her God-given authority--her own husband.  This type of love and submission produces strong families, strong churches, strong nations.

Ladies, let's "rightly divide the Word of Truth", develop the "meek and quiet spirit which is in the sight of God of great price", "submit ourselves unto our own husbands in everything", and "let the aged women teach the younger women to love their husbands."
