This is a Bible Study I use with ladies young and old, and was requested by a couple of fruitipliers. The reason it says to write so often is that for many of us, if we write something down it helps it to sink in. If we write it down we can also have it for future reference.
Study and be changed!
Read Proverbs 31:10-31. Verses 21, 22, and 25 have specifically to do with the clothing of the virtuous
woman. Look up the word "scarlet" in Strong's or Vine's. What does it mean? Write.
Look up the word "snow". Write.
Look up "coverings of tapestry". Write.
Check out the word "clothing" for a surprise! Write.
Investigate "silk". It's more than you think! Write.
And what about "purple"? Write.
You are beginning to see why word studies are important when studying the Bible. There's much more than initially meets the eye.
Why do you think we look words up in the Hebrew for Old Testament words and Greek for New Testament words instead of using your trusty old Webster's? Write.
Right now we can see that the virtuous woman and her family wear quality clothing of beauty. God is also praising this woman's industry. Her clothing reflects her diligent labor.
Let's look at 1 Timothy 2:9. Look up the word "modest". What did you find? Write. And now the word "apparel". The best help with this word, apparel, I have found in Vines' Expository Dictionary. It is more thorough than Strong's in this case.
Turn to Genesis 3:21. What did God make for Adam and Eve? What are these "coats"? Look it up and write.
What had to be done to provide clothing for Adam and Eve because of their sin? Write.
Look at the word "atonement". Break it up into three sections beginning with at- . Write.Does this help you understand the meaning of the word?
In Isaiah 61:10, at the end of the verse, what do you see? Does it appear that God disapproves of jewelry?
As a balancing factor, look again at 1 Peter 3:3.
Now look at 1 Timothy 2: 9-10. Are we only to clothe ourselves with good works? Of course not! Neither are we only to wear "strength and honor" as stated in Proverbs 31. We are to wear modest apparel with shamefacedness and sobriety. What is shamefacedness? Write.
And sobriety? Write.
This passage goes on to say, "not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." What in the world is "broided hair"? By now you know, look it up. Write.
This is why we need to know the entire Bible. If we only had 1 Timothy 2 we wouldn't have the balancing truths of Proverbs 31.
What do you think God is saying when you look at all of these verses together? Write.
Now for some difficult passages. Turn to Deuteronomy 22:5.
What does "pertaineth unto" mean? Write.
A good example of "pertaineth unto" for us is, which bathroom do you enter? The one with the pants on the door or the one with the dress? Which sign pertains to women? Write.
What specifically in this verse is an abomination to God? Write.
According to Malachi 3:6, if something is an abomination (a very strong word) to God in Deuteronomy, is it still an abomination to God today? Write.
What if I like wearing pants? What if I think they are comfortable, convenient, (you fill in the blank)? God's will is not about what we like. It is about holy living by the standards of a very holy God.
But didn't both women and men wear robes in Bible times? Yes.
According to Deuteronomy 22:5 we can assume that the men's robes were somehow distinctly different from the women's robes.
Okay, so, can't we wear women's pants then?
Even though men have worn robes, kilts, etc., in our culture dresses and skirts pertain strictly to women. Only perverted men dare this abomination of cross dressing. Yet the women have assumed the attire that has pertained strictly to men. It has come with women's rights, ceasing to be keepers at home, divorce, rampant nakedness, sexual immorality and unashamed perversion.
Our clothing is our uniform. When you see a policeman you know him by his clothing. When you see a ball player you know him by his uniform. When you see a Muslim woman, you know her by her head covering. When you see an Amish person you know them by their clothing. When you see an Orthodox Jewish man with the two long curls and a cap on his head, you know him by his head gear. When you see a Christian woman do you think you should be able to tell she is a Christian by her appearance? Write.
If we lived in a Christian society where ladies all dressed according to the directions given by God we would not have to look distinctly different; but in a non-Christian society we should be noticeably different simply because we are the only ones obeying God's Word concerning our appearance.
How can you be modest and feminine while swimming? Write.
How can you be modest and feminine when mounting a tall horse? Write.
And how about while skiing or for other cold related activities?
Now let's look at 1 Corinthians 11: 1-16. There is difference of opinion concerning what this covering is. Some say it is something you put on your head in addition to your hair. Others say it is simply your hair. What do you think? Write.
Have you done word studies? Write.
Can you support your belief? Write.
One thing is certain. God created man and woman and he wants us to be different from each other in our appearance and in our roles. God calls homosexuality an abomination and He wants us to stay far from it in all our ways.
Can a masculine girl become more feminine? Write.
Can an effeminate man become more masculine? Write.
Did you know that the way we behave affects the chemical makeup within our bodies?
Do you know that the way you dress affects the way you act?
All of God's instructions are given with love for our benefit.
Let's conduct ourselves as daughters of THE KING. Delight in your femininity!

I am so glad I was told about this website...havent figured it all out yet, but I really like it!!! Thank you sooooo much1 pointAmy wrote 830 Days Ago (neutral) 0Thanks for the great study! :) I've never heard that the way we act effects our chemical makeup. I'd like to know more about that. That's the opposite of what people say...you know, men saying that they can't help being feminine because they were born that way.2 pointsMarBear wrote 833 Days Ago (neutral) 0Thank you for sharing Mrs. Corbett! When I learned about dressing modestly it wasn't explained like this in fact God allowed Mrs. Ashleigh to explain it me, how I would be able to handle it as I was just coming back into church and coming back to God, this was def. a blessing though. Thank you for sharing! At our ladies' retreat last Jan. I was able to teach on dressing modest and it was such a blessing because I was able to learn so much preparing to teach other ladies.2 pointsMrs_Corbett wrote 836 Days Ago (neutral) 0Thank you, Jan for requesting it. I hope you can use it and that it will be helpful to ladies. I am one who likes to know why we do what we do, and I have raised my children to ask that question too. If we want to pass things on from generation to generation we must encourage questions and help them find real answers.2 pointsJan wrote 836 Days Ago (neutral) 0Mrs. Corbett,....that was a lot of writing! That was very kind of!!!! Thank you for posting this. I have witnessed to some of my good Christians frieds about thier dress and this bible study kept coming back to my mind. Thank you again!2 points
