Should Boys Wear Jewelry?
Should Boys Wear Jewelry?
1146 days ago 9 comments Categories: Christianity Tags:

Are you ever amazed by the variety of questions you are called on to answer as women? As a mom it is critical that we unearth real answers for our children. “Should boys wear jewelry” is one of the questions we have been asked by our children and friends.

When searching for answers we first turn to the Bible. In Deuteronomy we find the love slave who pierced his ear to signify a life-long commitment to his master as a slave by choice. We know that men could be awarded with a chain to wear around their neck to signify valuable service, as in Daniel. We know from the story of the prodigal son about the ring worn with the family seal for legal purposes. Can I say from these examples that jewelry for men is wrong? I don’t think so.

What about today? We are Baptist, so I will use Baptist men as an example. Baptists wear rings, tie tacks, tie bars, cuff links, diabetic identification, military id, and watches. Is this wrong? I don’t think so.

The scriptures warn us to avoid the very appearance of evil. As with hair style and clothing choices, the idea of boys wearing jewelry is more a matter of who you are identified with by wearing it. There are some pieces of jewelry if worn by young men today that signify that you are part of a certain group.

A young man who is earnestly seeking to please the Lord will wish to avoid anything that would cause people to question whether one of God’s adopted children loved Him enough to honor Him in all areas of life.

Of course, if one’s authorities ask that he not wear certain pieces of jewelry, to wear them anyway would constitute rebellion. God’s Word tells us that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. Obedience to authority would take precedence over preference.

I welcome your scriptural input. Blessings to you as you serve Him.

the question for today, is why do they wear a particular piece of jewelry- such as a ring, to signify marriage, or a high school/Bible student; a neck tie chain, to keep the tie in place- a necklace (?) most answers are to fit in or to look good. I reflect back to Deuteronomy- girls are to look like girls and guys are to look like guys. In the New Testament- abstain from the appearance of evil. You as an individual allow God to tell you what to believe so it will be life changing!

Wow, challenging post looking around the culture here! One thing that really challenges me is the effeminate culture, and very effeminate guys here. Unless they are of the working class, most men are very 'soft' and 'pretty boys' as they spend most of their lives studying and then working in an office. Living here certainly clarified for me that one requirement in a husband is that he be manly! There is something slightly revolting about a 'pretty boy' whose hands are 'more beautiful' and soft than mine! I don't even do much physical labor, but my hands would be considered rough and slightly calloused compared to lots of guys here! Sad, but true. Thanks for sharing your opinion on this topic, Mrs. Corbett!

I think this is a great post. We do not allow our boys to wear jewelry because we want them to look like boys and not little girls. Girls dress up to be pretty, but a boy should not be striving to be pretty, or to wear anything that could be classified girly! We believe that God indtended on creating differences between boys and girls. Our boys enjoy the great divide in those differences.

A most excellent perspective. I very much appreciate your fresh, biblical approach.
